Our agenda today was to visit Prague Castle, supposedly the oldest and largest castle complex in the world! A Unesco heritage site. After breakfast, once again Dave goes out in search of breakfast to bring back, I love this service he provides! Today was local pastries, a strudel and?, Dave said an older local lady was buying a lot of the strudel type pastry. It was all just okay. Think we are use to more fat and sugar in our items. So deemed it a somewhat healthy pastry!
We then walked to Prague Castle, climbing many stairs to get to the top.
We then found the ticket area, and were told already just after opening the line for the castle is over 1.5 hours, there is a special exhibit going on for St Wenchlas, which we found out later that St Wenceslas Day happened while we were there, a national holiday.
We chose not to stand in line for hours to see the interior of the castle with a crowd, and made our way quickly to the St Vitus Cathedral where there was no one in line. It was beautiful.
We then made our way to the Golden Lane, which our tickets included. It is the lane/street where the employees of the cathedral lived, such short little doorways! It was way too packed with people to enjoy, we walked through quickly and got the heck out of there!
All in all it was a bit disappointing, guess we are just not into exploring in huge crowds anymore!
Changing of the guards.
The views of another entrance to the castle grounds after we left.
And views on our trek back down the hill.
Walking around we ran into the beautiful courtyard and gardens of Wallenstein Palace, home of the Czech Senate.
Dave had made lunch reservations at the Four Seasons, niece Kylee had suggested we go there. It was a warm and lovely day to enjoy a meal on the outdoor patio there.
After lunch we walked around and made our way up to Letna Park, taking in the views of the Vltava River and city.
Boats going down the canal.
View of Charles Bridge.
Controversial sculpture by David Cerney.
Fun music on the Charles Bridge.
I had purchased tickets before we left home for a ballet at the National Theater for a performance of Coppelia, our Puerto Vallarta friends recommended we attend a performance here. Thank you Wayne and Ian! We both enjoyed it, great dancing, amazing full orchestra, fun story and a beautiful theater.
