Dave started his day with a bowl of soba noodles with tempura veggies for breakfast. This place was packed with business men having noodles before work by the time we left. You order and pay on a machine then put your ticket in the counter, in a few minutes it’s ready. a bit of a challenge to order when you can’t read anything, but Dave got what he wanted!

We took the subway to Ueno park and visited the National Museum.

Then we walked around the park to find a traditional tea house where we tried matcha tea, which is served with a sweet, and a delicious green tea with citrus peel. We were not crazy about the matcha.

We then walked over to Ameya Yokocho Market, a very bustling street market.

We wandered around and went into a Uniqlo store, I have been in one in Seattle but read where clothes here are less, we didn’t see anything we couldn’t live without! But we did see a sign for restaurants on the 7th and 8th floors so up we went. Restaurants are all over and in unexpected places too. We had a delicious huge lunch complete with beer and wine for about 24.00 at an Indian restaurant. We are finding restaurant prices very reasonable!

We took the subway to explore a couple very old neighborhoods, Golden Gai, and “Piss Alley”, these alleyways were known for illegal drinking establishments and prostitution in the 40’s-60’s. Most of the tiny establishments have only 2-6 seats at a bar. We stopped at the one with a cat sign and had very expensive beverages and chatted with a couple from the Netherlands.

Then walked down the alley of Omoide Yokocho, known as Piss Alley.

Of course had to have a picture with Godzilla above the buildings.

Took the subway back to our hotel and stopped at a place for salad and pizza. We were surprised that we lasted being out until 9:00! It was a fabulous day!
