Newport RI

 Our first stop was Newport.

We walked over to the bus terminal and got on the free shuttle and rode it to The Marble House. We missed the first shuttle, had to wait about 29 minutes for the second one and of course lots of crowding to get on, we barely got on even though we were  one of the first people there, we are not good at pushing our way.

We bought our ticket for the Marble House and Dave downloaded the 40 minute audio tour that we listened to as we went through the house. It had been built and owned by the Vanderbilts as a summer cottage. We had watched the series The Guilded Age, so we could really imagine the family there hosting grand balls.

Afterwards we found the Cliff Walk trail and took a beautiful walk back towards town.

We were hungry and found a spot for lunch, the water front area was packed with cruise ship passengers, took us a while to find a lunch spot that wasn’t a crowded indoor place. We had a great table in front of an open window, so we were happy!

We strolled around a bit in the charming town, then headed back to the ship.

Newport was a tender stop, we were lucky to get a seat on the top of the tender on the way back to the ship, it was a lovely ride.

We loved seeing the Marble House, walking down the street of mansions, and the lovely cliff walk on a beautiful sunny day, it made for a great day!

We have had a port stop every day of this cruise so far, 7 days in a row, so very behind, I love remembering some fun little special moments we have during the day, but those definitely won’t be remembered.

Pictures will be added after we get home.
